Our PEERS Program

PEERS ® (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) is a 16-week evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated young adults who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends.

During each group session young adults are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills in session during mock get-togethers. Social coaches (parent, family member, adult sibling, life coach, job coach, peer mentor, etc ) are taught how to assist their young adults in making and keeping friends by providing feedback through coaching during weekly socialization homework assignments.

Social Concerns Include:

  • Has trouble making friends
  • Most peers avoid and ignore them
  • Has trouble keeping friends
  • Is inattentive or spacey with peers
  • Has trouble sharing
  • Peers reject them
  • Is bossy, controlling or aggressive with peers
  • Has trouble resolving conflict
  • Is not invited to get togethers
  • Is shy, reserved or withdrawn with peers
  • Most peers do not accept young adult
  • Has trouble with dating skills

  • How to appropriately use humor
  • How to find common interests by trading information
  • How to arrange get-togethers
  • How to enter and exit conversations between peers
  • How to use appropriate dating etiquette/skills
  • How to find a source of friends
  • How to handle rejection, teasing, and bullying
  • How to appropriately use electronic communication
  • How to handle arguments and disagreements
  • How to make phone calls to friends
  • How to handle rumors and gossip
